What CalcPe Actually Is
CalcPe (available at calcpe.vercel.app) is a lightweight, browser-based suite of financial calculators built specifically for Indian personal finance scenarios. There's no app to download, no account to create, and no onboarding flow — you land on the page, pick a calculator, enter numbers, and get your result instantly.
At launch, the suite covers four core tools:
- Loan EMI Calculator — computes monthly installment amounts for home, personal, or car loans based on principal, interest rate, and tenure, with a breakdown of total interest paid versus principal over the loan term.
- SIP Calculator — projects the future value of monthly mutual fund SIP contributions using expected annual return and investment duration, useful for wealth-building projections.
- Fixed Deposit (FD) Calculator — works out maturity value and interest earned on a lump-sum FD given the deposit amount, interest rate, and tenure, with options for compounding frequency.
- PPF Calculator — models Public Provident Fund maturity value over the standard 15-year lock-in (or extended periods), accounting for annual contributions and the PPF interest rate.
The interface is minimal — a single input form per calculator with a results panel that updates as you type, built on what appears to be a static Next.js deployment (hence the vercel.app domain). There's no dashboard, no saved history, and no email capture anywhere in the flow.
Pricing: What It Actually Costs
CalcPe is completely free, and there's no tiered structure to evaluate — no premium plan, no "pro" unlock, no ads gating results behind a paywall. You don't create an account, so there's no data CalcPe is holding on you to monetize later. This matters because most calculator suites from financial platforms exist as lead-generation funnels; CalcPe, at least in its current form, doesn't ask for your phone number or email at any point to show you a result.
Who This Is Actually For
CalcPe is best suited for:
- Someone comparing loan offers quickly — if you're sitting with two bank quotes (say, 8.5% vs 8.75% on a ₹40 lakh home loan over 20 years) and want to see the EMI difference without opening a banking app or creating an account on a comparison site.
- A first-time SIP investor modeling whether ₹5,000/month at an assumed 12% return actually gets them to a ₹50 lakh goal in 15 years, without needing a mutual fund platform login.
- Someone with idle cash deciding between an FD and a savings account, who wants a fast maturity estimate without calling a bank or visiting a branch calculator tool buried three menus deep.
- A salaried employee tracking PPF contributions who wants a quick sanity check on maturity value rather than exporting a spreadsheet from the PPF passbook.
It's not for someone who wants to save calculation history, compare multiple scenarios side-by-side in one view, or get investment advice layered on top of the numbers — CalcPe doesn't do any of that. It's a calculator, not a planning dashboard.
How It Compares
| Factor | CalcPe | MoneyControl Calculator Suite | Cleartax Financial Calculators | HDFC Securities Tools |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Price | Free, no account | Free, but pushes MoneyControl Pro upsells | Free, but tied to Cleartax's tax-filing funnel | Free, but requires HDFC Securities account context |
| Registration required | None | None for basic use, prompts for account on some tools | None for calculators, but email nudges appear | Effectively yes — tools are embedded in a brokerage portal |
| Calculator range | 4 tools (EMI, SIP, FD, PPF) | 15+ tools including tax, retirement, inflation | 10+ tools, strong on tax-related calculators | Primarily investment/trading-focused (SIP, lumpsum, brokerage) |
| Ads/clutter | None — clean single-purpose pages | Heavy ad placement around results | Moderate, with cross-sell banners for tax filing | Minimal but branded toward brokerage sign-up |
| Best for | Fast, distraction-free single calculations | Users wanting a broad all-in-one finance tool hub | Users already filing taxes on Cleartax who want bundled tools | Existing HDFC Securities customers |
The honest trade-off: CalcPe does fewer things than any of these three competitors. MoneyControl and Cleartax both offer a wider spread of calculators (inflation-adjusted returns, retirement corpus, HRA exemption, capital gains), and if you need those, CalcPe won't cover you yet. What CalcPe trades breadth for is speed and cleanliness — there's no ad loading between you and your EMI number, and no "create a free account to see full breakdown" wall that MoneyControl occasionally puts up on its more detailed tools.
Verdict: Should You Use It Today?
If you need a quick, one-off EMI, SIP, FD, or PPF number and don't want to wade through ads or sign-up prompts, CalcPe does the job in under a minute and gets out of your way. It's a genuinely useful bookmark for the four calculations it covers.
If your needs go beyond those four — tax calculators, retirement planning, inflation-adjusted goal setting, or anything involving capital gains — you'll still need to keep MoneyControl or Cleartax open in another tab. CalcPe isn't trying to be a full financial planning suite yet, and it shouldn't be judged as one. For what it is — a fast, ad-free, no-nonsense calculator tool — it's a solid first release worth trying today, especially if the ad-heavy experience on bigger finance portals has been grating on you.
