What Replai GEO Actually Does

Replai GEO (short for Generative Engine Optimization) is a free WordPress plugin, listed on WordPress.org under the slug replai-ai-seo, that shifts the optimization target away from Google's crawler and toward AI systems like GPT-4/ChatGPT, Claude, and Perplexity. Instead of chasing keyword density and meta descriptions, it focuses on making your content easy for large language models to ingest, cite, and summarize correctly.

Concretely, once activated it does three things:

  1. Generates an llms.txt file — a proposed standard (similar to robots.txt) that tells AI crawlers what your site is about and which pages matter most.
  2. Creates clean Markdown versions of your pages — stripped of theme cruft, widgets, and navigation, so an LLM pulling your page for a summary or citation gets the actual content instead of a sidebar and a cookie banner.
  3. Auto-generates AI-readable summaries and FAQ blocks for posts and pages, aimed at increasing the odds of being quoted verbatim in an AI-generated answer.

On top of that, it ships with crawler analytics — a log of which AI bots (OpenAI's GPTBot, Anthropic's ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, and others) have actually hit your site and when. There's an optional connection to a hosted REPLAI dashboard for centralized monitoring if you're managing more than one site.

Why This Matters Right Now

Traditional SEO plugins were built for a world where a crawler indexes your page and a human clicks a blue link. That's no longer the only path to traffic. When someone asks ChatGPT "what's the best budget tripod for travel photography" or asks Perplexity to compare two SaaS tools, the answer is synthesized from crawled content — and your site either gets cited (with a link) or gets silently absorbed into an answer with no attribution and no click. Replai GEO is one of the first WordPress-native attempts to give site owners visibility and some control over that process, rather than treating it as opaque.

Pricing: Here's the Catch

The core plugin is free to install from WordPress.org — no license key required to activate the llms.txt generation, Markdown export, or basic crawler logging. However, Replai has not published public pricing for the hosted REPLAI dashboard, the optional layer that adds cross-site monitoring and (presumably) more detailed analytics or historical data. The plugin's settings page prompts you to connect an account, but at the time of this writing there's no visible pricing page, tier breakdown, or checkout flow — you sign up and it's unclear what, if anything, triggers a paid upgrade. If you're evaluating this for a client or a multi-site setup, budget for the strong possibility that the dashboard becomes a paid product later, and treat the current free access as an early-access/beta arrangement rather than a locked-in price.

Concrete Use Cases

  • A niche blog trying to get cited in AI answers. If you run a recipe site or a technical how-to blog, the Markdown export and FAQ generation give LLMs a cleaner artifact to quote from than your live HTML, which may include ads, related-post widgets, and JS-rendered content the crawler can't parse well.
  • A SaaS company that wants to know if it's even being crawled. Before you invest more time optimizing for AI visibility, the crawler analytics tell you whether GPTBot or ClaudeBot are hitting your site at all — useful diagnostic data that Yoast, Rank Math, and Semrush's plugin simply don't collect.
  • An agency managing several client sites who wants one place to see AI crawler activity across properties, via the optional REPLAI dashboard — assuming you're comfortable with pricing being TBD.
  • A documentation or knowledge-base site where accuracy of AI-generated summaries matters — e.g., if Perplexity is going to summarize your API docs, you'd rather it pull from a clean Markdown version you control than a mangled scrape of your rendered page.

What It Doesn't Do

Replai GEO is not a replacement for traditional SEO. It doesn't handle XML sitemaps for Google, schema markup for rich snippets, readability scoring, internal linking suggestions, or keyword research — all things Yoast and Rank Math still own. Think of it as a narrow, additive layer specifically for the AI-crawler side of visibility, not a full SEO suite.

Should You Install It Today?

If you're already running Yoast or Rank Math for standard SEO, there's no conflict in adding Replai GEO on top — it's not fighting for the same real estate (it doesn't touch your sitemap or meta tags), and the free tier gives you llms.txt generation and crawler logging with zero cost. The honest caveat: the plugin is new, the company's monetization plan for the dashboard isn't public yet, and "generative engine optimization" as a discipline is still being defined in real time — nobody, including Replai, can promise that an llms.txt file today translates into more citations in ChatGPT tomorrow. Install it if you want early visibility into AI crawler traffic and are comfortable being an early adopter of an unproven optimization category. Hold off if you need predictable, documented pricing before rolling something out across client sites.

Update — 2026-08-19

The plugin now requires users to provide their own OpenAI or Anthropic API keys to generate AI summaries (rather than the plugin handling this), and the llms.txt standard has evolved to include a full-content version at /llms-full.txt with multilingual support. The optional REPLAI dashboard connection remains, but pricing details are still undisclosed.
